Tilt Blade Sawmill & Resaw Manufacturers

When thinking of primary breakdown swing-blade sawmills to process large logs on site or at the mill, prospective customers conjure up thoughts of pricey imported mills – and then not necessarily perfectly suited to South African working conditions.

Fortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. A locally produced range of swing-saws is ideally suited for South African working conditions; is much more user-friendly than the imported units - and packs a mean punch.

Local manufacturer Bestbier Sawmills has designed and manufactures four swing-blade sawmill models that can accommodate large diameter logs of up to 1 m, with a promised production rate of between two and eight cubic meter per eight-hour shift.

The Bestbier railing system is also adapted to optimally suit South African working conditions, and is configured in a more user-friendly manner than the imported swing-blade mills, to allow for height adjustments. Easily loaded onto the back of a long-wheel base pick-up by two persons, the railing system simply locks into position, and once done is leveled directly off the ground. The cutting unit is mounted inside a racking unit that slide inside the railing on hardened, precision engineered wheels, which allows for the forward and backward movement of the cutting unit.

Bestbier’s research have shown that out of all the swing-blade units deployed locally, 90% are stationary – with the emphasis on the portability of the unit perhaps overplayed in marketing campaigns. Their railing system instead emphasises the importance of stability and rigidity without debunking portability.

Bestbier is the only South African swing-blade sawmills supplier that develops, designs and commissions such sawmills locally - with over thirty years of engineering prowess to their credit.

Shopping for a resaw? Bestbier Sawmills also manufactures an Arbor Resaw that offers the best solution if you are looking for a resaw with tremendous speed and extremely accurate cutting. Quality is of the highest standard, and only the best materials are used in the manufacturing process.

Countrywide deliveries are made of all Bestbier products, together with the commissioning of units and training provided afterwards.

Bestbier currently runs over 200 units in South Africa alone, with exports to the DRC, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and Angola also gathering speed.

If you are active in forestry, arbour – anything that involves trees and wood, Bestbier is the name to remember.

Robust, simple to use, and powerful – together with excellent after sales service are the keywords to the success of Bestbier sawmills.

Product Specifications

Sawmills

Each model can be powered by either an electrical or petrol driven American manufactured Kohler power plant. Both petrol units provide 27 hp of hefty cutting power, while the electrically powered units weigh in at a healthy 15kW. Cutting is done through the typical 5 tooth, tungsten carbide tipped 3 mm plate saw blades with a 5 mm kerf.

Cutting length is according to specification, the standard length being 4200 mm. A maximum cut of either 160 or 210 mm deep or wide is possible with all four models,

The Bestbier improved and reliable transmission units complement both the petrol and electric ranges.

Railing System

The railing system is manufactured from heavy-gauge steel bar that allows for maximum tortional rigidity and is able to withstand the harshest operating conditions without give at any point.

Whereas the imported swing-blade mills allow for height adjustments at each end through ratchets that pick up or lower the railing that the cutting unit runs in, the Bestbier unit is configured in a more user- friendly manner to allow for height adjustments.

The Bestbier railing is leveled off the ground and remains at that height with the cutting unit that runs perpendicular to the log inside the railing then being lowered or raised as required.

Given that it is the rack that contains the cutting unit that determines the height adjustment in the Bestbier, height adjustment is instantaneous at all four ends without the operator having to adjust the height at each corner separately. This makes height adjustment significantly easier, simpler and quicker.

Resaws

The Bestbier Arbor Resaw offers the best solution when shopping for a resaw with tremendous speed and extremely accurate cutting. The resaw operates on the principle of a double arbor, with two blades which rotate in the same direction (one blade sawing from either side of the machine).

It is powered by either 2 x 7.5kw or 2 x 11kw or 2 x 15kw electric motors - various models are available according to requirements, and multiple blades can also be used.

The machine has a 200mm wide sliding bed and a height of 200mm. A conveyor belt feeds the timber through the throat of the resaw. The feed is controlled, with a variable speed drive that can be adjusted from 0 – 60m/min.

The control box, which is easily accessible at the front of the machine, contains two amp-meters which indicate the sharpness of the blade-tips – resulting in the prevention of damaged blades caused by blunt tips.
